October Events

One of the great things about fall in Richmond—other than the perfect weather—is the abundance of festivals and events that come to town. Fall offers just as many fun festivals and events as summer in Central Virginia, and our real estate agents are excited to share some of their favorites. Be sure to mark your calendar for these Richmond events in October!

  • 10/5 - OystoberFest - 3602 Hawthorne Ave, Richmond, VA 23222
Central Virginia's largest oyster festival, OystoberFest, returns to Richmond on October 5 this year. The festival is held by St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in historic Ginter Park, and it's a must-attend event for oyster lovers. It's also a great way to embrace the transition from summer into fall. Just minutes from many Richmond homes for sale, OystoberFest will also include live music and a craft beer tent in addition to all the steamed, grilled, fried, and raw oysters you can eat.

  • 10/5-6 - 2nd Street Festival - N 2nd St, Richmond, VA 23219
Overtaking the historic Jackson Ward neighborhood in Downtown Richmond for two days in early October, the 2nd Street Festival is arguably the biggest and most anticipated festival of the fall season. Now in its 36th year, the festival celebrates one of Richmond's most culturally diverse and significant neighborhoods, which was once known as the "Harlem of the South." The 2nd Street Festival includes food, drink, and art vendors, along with live music on three stages.

  • 10/6 - Artoberfest - 30 W Old St, Petersburg, VA 23803
The 3rd annual Artoberfest arrives in Petersburg on the first Sunday in October, bringing a perfect opportunity to enjoy local art while checking out these Petersburg homes for sale. The event takes place at Appomattox Iron Works in Old Towne Petersburg and will include artworks for sale by numerous regional and local artists, along with food and drink tents, music, entertainment, and kids' crafts and activities.

  • 10/11-13 - Richmond Nightmare Weekend - 403 N 3rd St, Richmond, VA 23219
Richmond's premier horror convention returns to the Greater Richmond Convention Center on the second weekend in October. It's a big event for horror buffs and also a great opportunity to get into the Halloween spirit a couple of weeks early. Nightmare Weekend includes three full days of spooky games, vendors, cosplay contests, and more than a few celebrity guests. Be sure to get into the vibe by dressing in your creepiest attire!

  • 10/18-19 - Richmond Oktoberfest - 3191 Dawn Blvd, Doswell, VA 23047
Oktoberfest celebrations are typically held in September, but Richmond does things a little differently! The annual Richmond Oktoberfest will take place on October 18 and 19 at Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia. It's less than 30 minutes from Downtown Richmond, and it's the only authentic German Oktoberfest in Central Virginia. Now in its 59th year, Richmond Oktoberfest offers traditional German food, beer, music and dancing across two fun-filled days. Prost!

  • 10/27 - HarvestFest Fall Festival - 1800 Lakeside Ave, Henrico, VA 23228
The annual HarvestFest Fall Festival at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a great opportunity to really embrace autumn in Central Virginia. You'll find an abundance of classic kid-friendly fall-themed activities here, like pumpkin carving and pumpkin painting, along with live music in a pastoral setting. Foods including grilled bratwurst, soft pretzels and apple pie will also be available. The gardens are a short drive from Richmond and a stone's throw from many Henrico homes for sale
